That should select all the folders and files. This will not look like it does much, but it's preparing to copy the files. Close that folder and go to your desktop. Name the folder Sims2 DVD. This will begin copying the files from the DVD.

Once the files are copied, remove the disc from the drive. Double-click on the Setup icon in the folder. You may delete the Sims2 DVD folder once the installation is complete.

The Sims 2 is compatible with Windows Vista. It says so on the website but it says nothing about how to fix this problem. Yeah, that message appeared when I install the game for the second time.

Well depending on how badly the disc is scratched, there are things you can buy that can repair the disc, if it's scratched too badly however, you're screwed, the disc is shot, game over. It is however possible that whatever you glued onto the disc is screwing with it's weight distribution and your optical drive can't spin it properly.
